Tim Berlew | Pastor
Reverend Tim Berlew was appointed pastor of Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church as of July 1, 2016. He grew up in South Florida and received his Bachelor of Music degree in music education and Master of Music in choral conducting from the University of Miami. In 1998, he received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance from the University of Michigan. Tim began serving as an organist and director of music in churches at the age of 13. In 2001, he sensed a change of call from music ministry to the pastoral ministry. He earned the Master of Divinity degree from Duke University in 2007. He has served in music ministry in Florida, Michigan, and North Carolina. As a pastor he has served churches in Henderson, North Carolina, as well as here in Wisconsin.
Domnik Israel | Pastor of Visitation
Pastor Domnik Israel joined our staff as our part-time Pastor of Visitation in June of 2016. Pastor Domnik retired from full-time ministry in the Wisconsin Conference the end of June. He was ordained in the Methodist Church of India in 1982. He served twenty years as pastor, seminary faculty and Pastoral Leadership Training Director. He has served churches in LaCrosse, Shawano, and Wautoma, Wisconsin since 2003. Pastor Domnik also has a passion for missions. He even earned a doctorate in missiology. Domnik & his wife, Joyce, reside in Greenfield. His major work will be in keeping us connected with our homebound members.
Tina Itson | Deacon
Rev. Tina Itson serves as the Director of Development for United Methodist Children’s Services in the Washington Park neighborhood in Milwaukee. An ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church, she has experience in non-profit management, event management, fundraising as well as local and conference level youth ministries. A native of Southern California, Deacon Tina received her undergraduate degree in American Studies & American Literature from the University of Southern California, and then attended Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary where she received both a Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Arts in Christian Education. She most recently completed her Certificate in Fund Raising Management from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. As a Deacon, she sees her clergy role as being a bridge between the church and the world—bringing the needs of the world to the attention of the church, and empowering and equipping those in the church to be in ministry out in the world.
Natalie Stumpner | Director of Christian Education
Natalie joined the WAUMC team in July of 2013. She actively works in the Sunday School department, continuing to nurture our children in their spiritual growth in new and engaging ways. She is involved with the confirmation class, Senior High youth and adult education classes. Natalie completed her Bachelors of Science degree in elementary education from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, WI. She is also a recent graduate of Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary with a Masters of Arts in Christian Education. Natalie enjoys teaching children of all ages.
Jodie Hunt | Church Administrator
Jodie joined the staff in 1995 to assist the pastors, staff members, and church committees in the administration and coordination of church operations, scheduling, programs, and in the management and maintenance of the church facility and grounds. She received her Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Jodie has been an active leader and volunteer in the community. She and her husband, Jeff, are long-time members of WAUMC. They have two grown children.
Jackie Onan | Financial Secretary
Jackie joined our staff in August 2010 and is responsible for maintaining all financial and payroll records, and providing timely and accurate reports for the church staff, committees, and church members. She grew up in Wauwatosa and received her Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is also a Certified Public Accountant. She and her husband, Lance, are long-time members of Peace UMC in Brookfield and she plays in their handbell choir. She has two daughters, ages 15 and 26.
Amy Hufnahl | Adult Choir Director
Amy joined our staff in September 2017. She has been a music teacher and choral director for 38 years working for Milwaukee Public Schools and directing the Brookfield Civic Chorus for 16 years. She has also been a chancel choir director and handbell director for over 20 years at Milwaukee-area churches. She is a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus and is a missionary in Kenya, Costa Rica and Peru. She is an avid artist and woodcarver, winning several international awards for her work. Amy and her husband Steve (an organist) love train travel and they live here in Milwaukee with their two awesome dogs, Kibo and Pennsy
Martha Aslakson | Church Organist & Adult Handbell Director
Martha has been putting our church organ’s pipes to good use since 1991. She has a Master of Music in organ performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Martha serves WAUMC as organist for Sunday worship services, provides accompaniment for vocal and instrumental performances, and serves as the Director of our Tower Bells Handbell Choir. She is a member of the Milwaukee Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is on the Executive Board of the Milwaukee Chapter AGO. She and her husband, Mark, reside in Racine.
Janet Smith | Chapel Service Organist/Pianist
Janet has been active in the music program of WAUMC since the fall of 1999. She joined the staff as chapel organist/pianist in September of 2001 and also serves as assistant sanctuary organist. Janet is a graduate of the Conservatory of Music of Lawrence University, majoring in voice, piano/organ. She has many years of experience as organist, choir director, piano accompanist, public school music teacher and soloist. She also is a member of United Methodist Women and P.E.O. Janet and her husband, the Rev. Carol Smith, have two sons and seven grandchildren.
Heather Pulkowski | Praise Ensemble Director/Pianist & Keyboardist
Heather joined the Praise Ensemble in 2012 as the group’s pianist and became the director in 2017. She has played piano for 16 years and is recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BFA stage management. You can often find her at Sunset Playhouse, where she works as a sound designer for various groups and shows. She lives with her husband, Eric, with their 5 year old son, Charles.
Nicole Lassiter | Troubadour Choir Director
Nicole is beginning her first year with us as the director of the Troubadour Choir. She recently completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wayne State University in Detroit. Voice was her principal instrument. Nicole has worked with children’s choirs in Southwest Detroit. She is moving to the Milwaukee area to work with Hal Leonard, a major music publisher headquartered in Brookfield.
Elizabeth Hessner | Nursery Supervisor
Elizabeth joined the WAUMC team in fall 2016 as the nursery supervisor. Though she just started her job in the fall, Elizabeth has been attending the church since 1995 and is where she was baptized as a baby and confirmed as a teenager. Elizabeth currently works as a preschool teacher at a Christian school in Brookfield, because of her love for children. She graduated from Brookfield East High School in 2013 and attended UWM and UW Oshkosh, majoring in political science and minoring in psychology.
Chick Zaffiro | Maintenance/Security
Chick joined our staff in 2014. He is responsible for the maintenance of the church building, grounds and systems and for the security of the building. He also assists the staff and committees in room setups for meetings and events. Chick is a retired brewery worker and has been married to his wife, Carole, since 1981. They have two adult daughters, Gabrielle and Helene. His hobbies include gardening, photography, writing, music (guitar and keyboards) and raising a mutt named Atticus.
Marie Rider | Printer/Custodian
Marie joined our staff in 2012 as the printer, printing the weekly bulletins and the newsletter. She took on the position of custodian in 2014. She and her husband Mark have been active members of the church since 2001. They have a son, David, who is active in our church youth group. Her hobbies include photography, scrapbooking, and gardening.
